Racists Anonymous

A twelve-step fellowship for people working on their own racial bias.

What the fellowship is

Racists Anonymous applies the twelve-step form to racism, treating bias as something to be examined honestly and continuously in oneself rather than something one is or is not.

What members describe

Not a checklist and not a diagnosis — just what people in RA commonly say brought them in.

  • Recognising patterns of prejudice in your own thinking and wanting them gone
  • Reactions of suspicion or judgement you did not choose and do not endorse
  • Defensiveness that arrives before thought in conversations about race
  • Wanting somewhere structured to do that work rather than doing it alone
  • Believing personal change is part of, not a substitute for, wider change

Your first meeting

RA meetings run on honesty rather than confrontation. There are no call-outs; members use the steps to look inward and say what they find out loud, which is the mechanism the whole form is built on.

Where 12Gradus fits

12Gradus is software for the sponsor, not a substitute for one and not part of any fellowship. Nothing here is affiliated with or endorsed by Racists Anonymous.

A sponsee's profile records that they are in Racists Anonymous and dates their clean time from their recovery start. Daily check-ins, a self-reported urge score, high-risk days noted beside the chart, a rough-moment button that reaches the sponsor immediately, secure chat and a text bridge all work the same in every programme.

The step work is the part that does not. The built-in library is written for Gamblers Anonymous. A sponsor in RA assigns their own materials instead — which works, and is what sponsors have always done, but it is not the same as having RA's own step work in the app.
