Privacy Policy

12Gradus ("we," "us," "our"), operated by MCK Legacy LLC, provides tools that strengthen the relationship between 12-step sponsors and the people they sponsor. Privacy and anonymity are traditions of the recovery community, and they are the foundation of how this service is built. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Account information — an email address and password for sign-in, and a display name. We encourage first name and last initial only, in keeping with the tradition of anonymity.
Recovery support information you choose to enter — such as a recovery date, program selection, step-work assignments and responses, chat messages between a sponsor and sponsee, check-ins, journal entries, scheduled sessions, and optional profile details (phone number, home group, best times to talk).
Purchase information — if you buy from our shop, payment is processed by Stripe and shipping by our fulfillment partners; we receive order details and a shipping address, never full card numbers.
Technical basics — standard server logs needed to run and secure the service.

How we use information

To provide the service: connecting sponsors and sponsees, syncing step work, chat, check-ins, and schedules between their devices.
To deliver messages you've asked for, including SMS text messages if you opt in.
To fulfill purchases and milestone gifts.
To secure, maintain, and improve the service.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your recovery information for advertising.

Privacy inside the app

Private journal entries are private. A sponsee chooses, entry by entry, what is shared with their sponsor. Entries marked private are never visible to the sponsor — this is enforced at the database level, not just in the app's interface.
Sponsor notes stay on the sponsor's device and are never uploaded to our servers.
Sponsors see only the sponsees connected to them by an invitation the sponsee accepted.

SMS text messaging

12Gradus offers an optional SMS bridge so a sponsee can receive their sponsor's messages as text messages and reply by text.

Opt-in: SMS is used only for phone numbers provided to us with consent, with text messaging expressly enabled for that person's profile. Messages are one-to-one recovery support conversations between a sponsee and their own sponsor — never marketing.
Message frequency varies by conversation. Message and data rates may apply.
Opt-out: reply STOP at any time to stop receiving texts. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at support@12gradus.com. You can also turn off SMS in the app at any time.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

When we share information

Only with service providers who process it on our behalf to run the service, under contractual confidentiality: cloud database hosting (Supabase), SMS delivery (Twilio), payment processing (Stripe), video meeting rooms, and print-and-ship fulfillment (Printful). We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a person or the integrity of the service.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and its data at any time by contacting support@12gradus.com; we will delete it except where the law requires us to keep records (for example, purchase records).

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is controlled with row-level security so each person can reach only their own relationships, and secrets are never stored in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but the service is designed so that even we see as little as possible.

Children

12Gradus is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or by email.
