SMS Program Disclosure

12Gradus, operated by MCK Legacy LLC, offers an optional SMS feature so a person in recovery (a "sponsee") can exchange one-to-one peer-support messages with their own 12-step sponsor by text message, without needing the app. This page describes exactly how consent is collected and how the program works.

Who sends and receives messages

Sender: a sponsee's own recovery sponsor, through the 12Gradus platform. Recipient: an adult sponsee who asked to receive their sponsor's messages by text. Every conversation is strictly one-to-one peer support: encouragement, check-ins, step-work reminders, and meeting scheduling. No marketing or promotional messages are ever sent through this program.

How opt-in works (double opt-in)

An adult 12Gradus user (sponsee) provides their own mobile number in their app profile and enables text messaging ("Prefers SMS"). They can turn it off in the app at any time.
The first and only message sent before consent is a single consent request:

12Gradus: {Sponsor first name} has invited you to receive recovery support texts. Reply YES to confirm. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

No further messages are sent unless the user replies YES (or START) from their own handset. On confirmation they receive:

12Gradus: You're connected with your sponsor for recovery support texts. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

Only then do conversational messages flow, always brand-identified, for example:

Kyle (12Gradus): Proud of you for reaching 30 days. One day at a time.

Kyle (12Gradus): Our step work session is tomorrow at 7pm. Reply here if you need to reschedule.

Frequency, rates, opt-out, and help

Message frequency varies by conversation (typical volume is a few messages per week). Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP at any time to opt out — texting is disabled immediately and the sponsor is notified in the app. Reply START to resume.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
