Heroin Anonymous

A twelve-step fellowship for people recovering from heroin addiction.

What the fellowship is

Heroin Anonymous is a fellowship of people who have found a way to stop using heroin and all other mind-altering substances. It is modelled on AA and holds that recovery from opiates is possible through the twelve steps.

What members describe

Not a checklist and not a diagnosis — just what people in HA commonly say brought them in.

  • Using compulsively and being unable to stop alone
  • Withdrawal severe enough to decide the question by itself
  • Risks, offences or spending undertaken to keep using
  • Health, work and self-respect worn down together
  • A settled belief that this is simply how it will be now

Your first meeting

HA meetings are full of people who held that last belief and were wrong about it. That is most of what a first meeting is for.

Where 12Gradus fits

12Gradus is software for the sponsor, not a substitute for one and not part of any fellowship. Nothing here is affiliated with or endorsed by Heroin Anonymous.

A sponsee's profile records that they are in Heroin Anonymous and dates their clean time from their last use. Daily check-ins, a self-reported urge score, high-risk days noted beside the chart, a rough-moment button that reaches the sponsor immediately, secure chat and a text bridge all work the same in every programme.

The step work is the part that does not. The built-in library is written for Gamblers Anonymous. A sponsor in HA assigns their own materials instead — which works, and is what sponsors have always done, but it is not the same as having HA's own step work in the app.
