A twelve-step fellowship for people recovering from food addiction.

What the fellowship is

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous is a fellowship whose members recover from food addiction through the twelve steps and continuous abstinence from compulsive eating. Its programme is unusually structured, with weighed meals and daily sponsor contact.

What members describe

Not a checklist and not a diagnosis — just what people in FA commonly say brought them in.

  • Eating compulsively, or cravings for particular foods that do not negotiate
  • Eating in secret, or being untruthful about what was eaten
  • A long history of diets and programmes that each worked and then did not
  • Weight and body image occupying most of the available attention
  • Food doing the work that comfort, celebration or anger should be doing

Your first meeting

FA asks more of newcomers than most fellowships — a defined abstinence, three weighed meals, a daily call to a sponsor. Members generally describe that structure as the thing that finally made it possible rather than as a burden.

Where 12Gradus fits

12Gradus is software for the sponsor, not a substitute for one and not part of any fellowship. Nothing here is affiliated with or endorsed by Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous.

A sponsee's profile records that they are in Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous and dates their clean time from their last binge. Daily check-ins, a self-reported urge score, high-risk days noted beside the chart, a rough-moment button that reaches the sponsor immediately, secure chat and a text bridge all work the same in every programme.

The step work is the part that does not. The built-in library is written for Gamblers Anonymous. A sponsor in FA assigns their own materials instead — which works, and is what sponsors have always done, but it is not the same as having FA's own step work in the app.
