This is the tool that helps you keep it. 12Gradus gives a sponsor one calm place to hold every sponsee: where they are in the steps, when you last spoke, what they're carrying today — and a way to reach them that works even when they don't open an app. Sponsees are free. Always. Start free See how it works Sponsees never pay First name, last initial — anonymity first Cancel any time The sponsor dashboard — shown here with demo data. The gap we kept falling into Nobody means to lose track of a sponsee. It happens in the ordinary way: a week gets busy, a text goes unanswered, and the person who most needed a call is the one who slipped the furthest down the list. Sponsorship runs on memory and goodwill, and both of them run out. Step work lives in three places A notebook, a text thread, and a memory of a conversation in a parking lot. None of them are where you look when you need them. Silence reads as \"fine\" The sponsee who stops answering looks exactly like the sponsee who is doing well. You find out which one it was later than you'd like. The app nobody opens Half of recovery happens on a phone with a cracked screen and no data plan. A tool that only works inside itself doesn't work. What you get One place to hold the whole relationship For the parts of sponsoring that paper, memory and a crowded phone keep dropping. A real CRM for sponsees Every sponsee gets a profile: recovery date, program, contact, what they're working on, private coaching notes only you can see. Open it before a call and you're caught up in ten seconds. Step work 0–12, assigned and tracked Assign reading, writing, meetings or worksheets — or build your own form with your own questions. Sponsees fill it in, turn it in, and you see it. Reusable across every sponsee you'll ever have. Chat with an SMS bridge Message inside the app, or let it ride out as a plain text message. Your sponsee replies from their phone's messages app and it lands back in your thread. No download required on their side. Scheduling you both can see Put the call on a shared schedule. They get the details by text when it is booked, and both of you get a reminder about an hour before. Video meetings get a private room with no accounts and no sign-in. A rough-moment button One tap tells you a sponsee is struggling right now — in the app and, if you've opted in, as a text to your cell. It also puts their own prevention plan in front of them while they wait. Privacy that isn't decorative Journal entries a sponsee marks private stay private — enforced in the database, not just hidden in the interface. First name and last initial throughout. Their mailing address is theirs alone. All 33 fellowships Built around Gamblers Anonymous and open to every twelve-step program — AA, NA, OA, Al-Anon and the rest. Pick the fellowship on the profile. Milestones worth marking Days of Freedom milestones from 30 days to two years, with magnets you can send when one lands. Program-agnostic on purpose. Getting started Three steps, about ten minutes Create your account Sign in with an emailed code — no password to forget. Say whether you sponsor, are sponsored, or both. You can be both; one login covers it. Invite your sponsees You get an invite code for each person. They enter it, and the two of you are paired. If they'd rather stay in text messages, add their cell and let the SMS bridge do the rest. Work the steps together Assign the work, watch it come back, leave your notes, mark the milestones. Keep the human part exactly where it was — on the phone, in the rooms, over coffee. Create your account Read the user guide The text bridge Works on the phone your sponsee actually has A sponsee with no app, no storage space and a pay-as-you-go plan is still a sponsee. Add their number and your messages arrive as ordinary text messages — they reply from their normal messages app, and it lands back in your thread inside 12Gradus. They confirm once by replying YES . Consent is recorded, and STOP works forever after. Assignments, date changes and newly scheduled sessions can ride out the same way. Turned-in step work and rough-moment taps can text you back, if you opt in. Carrier-registered messaging. Message and data rates may apply. How opt-in works . Chat, with the option to send as a text message. Built AI-first AI does our paperwork. It does not do your sponsoring. We use AI to run the company — this site’s assistant, our support drafts, our own operations. We do not put an algorithm between a sponsor and a sponsee, and no recovery content trains anything. Ask, and get a straight answer The assistant in the corner of this page answers from these pages — pricing, privacy, how the bridge works — and says so when it doesn't know. Never in the private places Journals, private reflections and chat are not read by a model, not summarised by one, and never used as training data. Written down, not implied Our commitments are on one page, in plain language, with the things we refuse to do listed first. Read the AI commitments Pricing Sponsors subscribe. Sponsees never pay. Keep the human part exactly where it was — on the phone, in the rooms, over coffee. For sponsors Everyone you carry, on one screen The dashboard opens on what changed: who checked in, who didn't, what work came back, and what's on the calendar. Each sponsee has a profile with their program, recovery date, contact details, current step, and coaching notes that stay on your side of the relationship. Step 0 through 12 with a built-in library, plus your own assignments. Build a form with your own questions — mark any question a private reflection and you'll only see that it was answered. Share an assignment you wrote to the community commons, or borrow one somebody else shared. Sessions your sponsee is texted about the moment you set one; video rooms that need no accounts. Your roster, with last contact and current step. Step work: assign it, watch it come back, respond. Step work Assign it, and actually see it come back Assign reading, writing, a meeting (in person, virtual or phone), an action, or a worksheet. Add instructions, a link, a due date and a review date. Paste a document you already use and 12Gradus turns its lines into questions. Your sponsee fills it in on their own time — drafts save as they type — and turns it in when they're ready. You see how many questions are answered before they submit, so a stall is visible while it's still a nudge and not a relapse. For sponsees Free, quiet, and yours A sponsee sees a Today screen: their days, their check-in, what their sponsor asked for, and a rough-moment button that's always one tap away. Their journal is theirs — any entry marked private is invisible to the sponsor, enforced in the database rather than hidden in the interface. A structured relapse-prevention plan, built with their sponsor and pulled up automatically in a rough moment. Milestones from 30 days to two years, counted honestly. A reset resets the date — never the relationship. Leave a sponsor and keep your own history. Your address and contact details stay private to you. The sponsee side — free, forever. Under the hood The unglamorous parts we did anyway Row-level security Every table enforces who may read and write each row and each column, per operation — not a filter in the app that a crafted request could walk around. It's tested by an adversarial suite that tries to break it as three different users. Anonymity by default First name and last initial everywhere a name appears. No public profiles, no directory, no social graph. Honest writes When a message or a rough-moment alert fails to send, the app tells you it failed and offers Retry. It never shows a checkmark it hasn't earned. Carrier-registered SMS Double opt-in, STOP and HELP handled, and a registered campaign behind it — not a grey-route texting hack. Your account, your exit Delete your account from inside the app. Ending a pairing is a soft end: the sponsee keeps their own journal, reflections and history. No — and it never will be. 12Gradus is a tool a sponsor uses. The relationship, the phone calls, the meetings and the honesty all happen between two people. We are the notebook, not the person holding it. Do sponsees have to pay? Never. Sponsees use 12Gradus free, forever, with no feature held back and no trial clock. Sponsors subscribe; that's the whole business model. What about anonymity? The app shows first name and last initial throughout, the way the rooms do. Your sponsor sees the work you turn in and the check-ins you make — they do not see journal entries you mark private, or the reflections you flag as private inside an assignment. That's enforced by the database, not by hiding a button. Is there a free trial? Yes — your first seven days on either paid tier are free. AI runs our paperwork so a very small team can ship a serious product. It does not read your journal, answer your sponsee, or score anybody's recovery. What AI does here Answers questions on this website. The assistant in the corner reads these public pages and answers from them. Drafts our own words. Blog posts, help text and support replies start as drafts and are edited by a human before they ship. Writes and reviews our code. Including the adversarial tests that try to break our own access rules. Runs internal operations. Catalogue updates, release checks, routine engineering chores. What AI will never do here Read private recovery content. Journals, private reflections, step-work answers and chat are not sent to any model. Train on your data. Nothing you or your sponsee writes is used as training data. Not now, not later, not anonymised. Stand in for a sponsor. No auto-replies to a sponsee, no generated encouragement sent in your name. Score or predict a person. No relapse-risk numbers, no engagement grades, no algorithmic triage of who deserves attention. About the assistant on this site It runs on Claude, from Anthropic. It is given the text of these public pages and asked to answer from them — pricing, how the text bridge works, what's in the shop, what our privacy policy says. It has no access to the app, to any account, or to any recovery data. It cannot look you up, because there is nothing for it to look you up in. Your questions are sent to Anthropic to generate the answer and are not used to train models. We keep no conversation history after you close the tab. It can be wrong. When something matters — money, privacy, a policy — the page it points you at is the authority, not the answer. It is not a counsellor and will not pretend to be one. Ask it something that belongs to a human and it will say so, and give you the crisis numbers. Why say all this out loud Recovery communities have good reason to be suspicious of software. People have been surveilled, scored, marketed to and had their worst days sold as data. \"We take your privacy seriously\" is what everyone says right before doing the opposite. So we would rather publish the list of things we refuse to do, in public, where you can hold us to it. If you ever catch us on the wrong side of this page, write to support@12gradus.com and we will fix it or take the page down. We won't quietly edit the promise. For agents and automated readers This site publishes /llms.txt and a machine-readable index of every page at /data/content-index.json , plus the live product catalogue at /data/catalog.json . Take what's useful. If you're building something for recovery communities and want to compare notes, get in touch. Try it — ask it something hard. Sponsorship asks a lot of an ordinary person. You hold other people's worst weeks in your head alongside your own job, your own family, and your own recovery. Most sponsors do this with nothing but memory and goodwill, and both of them run out on a Tuesday. The tools that exist are either clinical software built for treatment centres — priced and shaped for institutions — or generic productivity apps that know nothing about steps, anonymity, or what a reset means. Neither is built for the person sitting in a parking lot before a meeting, trying to remember whether the guy on step four ever came back with his list. So we built the boring middle thing: a workspace for a sponsor, a free companion for a sponsee, and a text bridge for everybody whose phone can't hold another app. What we believe Technology should make the human part easier to do, not easier to skip. Every decision in 12Gradus runs through that. We won't build a bot that answers a sponsee for you. We won't score anybody's recovery. We won't turn a fellowship into a feed. What we will do is make sure the call gets made, the work gets seen, and nobody quietly falls off the end of a list. Anonymity is a feature, not a setting The rooms figured this out a long time ago: first name, last initial. 12Gradus works the same way. There are no public profiles, no follower counts and no directory to be found in. A sponsee's private journal entries and private reflections are invisible to their sponsor, and that's enforced by the database, not by a hidden button. Where the money goes Sponsors pay a small subscription; sponsees pay nothing. The shop covers its own printing and shipping. By 12Gradus 12Gradus is built AI-first. It is also, deliberately, a product with no AI anywhere near the relationship between a sponsor and a sponsee. Those two sentences look contradictory. They aren't, and the distinction is worth spelling out, because \"AI-powered recovery app\" is a phrase that should make anyone in the rooms nervous. Where the AI actually is Behind the product, not inside it. Engineering. Most of the code in 12Gradus is written with AI agents and reviewed by a human. That includes the unglamorous work small teams usually skip: the adversarial test suite that tries to break our own access rules, the migration files, the responsive fixes at 320 pixels wide, the error paths nobody sees. A one-person company that ships a payments integration, a carrier-registered SMS bridge, per-operation database security and a web app is doing it with leverage. This is the leverage. Operations. Catalogue updates, release checks, content builds, the boring recurring chores that otherwise get done late or not at all. Words. Blog posts and help text start as drafts from a model and are edited by a person before they go out. This post did. We mention it because a company that writes about honesty should say so. This website. The assistant in the bottom corner of every page reads the text of these public pages and answers from them. It has no access to the app, to any account, or to any recovery data — there's nothing for it to look anyone up in. Where it will never be Four commitments. These are the interesting part, because they're the ones that cost us features we could otherwise ship. 1. No model reads private recovery content. Journals, private reflections, step-work answers, chat between a sponsor and sponsee. Not for summarising, not for search, not for \"insights\", not for a helpful weekly digest. The obvious product idea here — let AI summarise your sponsee's week for you — is one we've decided against permanently. Somebody wrote those words to one person. Sending them to a third party, even a well-behaved one, is a betrayal of that even if it never leaks. 2. Nothing you write trains anything. Not now, not later, not anonymised, not aggregated. Recovery content is the single worst category of data to have floating in a training corpus, and the fact that it would probably be fine is not a good enough reason. 3. No AI stands in for a sponsor. No auto-replies to a sponsee. No generated encouragement sent under your name. No chatbot that does step work with someone at 3am. This is the one people ask for most, and it's the clearest no: the entire mechanism of sponsorship is that a person who has been there is choosing to pick up the phone. Simulating that hollows out the only part that works. 4. No scoring people. No relapse-risk percentages, no engagement grades, no algorithmic ranking of which sponsee needs you most this week. We could build it. The data is right there. We won't, for two reasons: it would be wrong often, and — worse — it would be trusted . A sponsor who reads \"low risk\" next to a name is a sponsor who makes one fewer phone call. Nobody should ever be talked out of a call by a number. Why publish this at all Because the alternative is a privacy policy nobody reads and a slide deck nobody sees. Recovery communities have earned their suspicion of software. People have been surveilled, scored, marketed to, and had their worst weeks sold on as data. Any company arriving in this space with the word \"AI\" in its pitch owes a specific, checkable account of what it's doing — not a reassurance. So the list above is a public one, on its own page , in plain language. If we ever cross it, you'll be able to point at the exact line. And if you catch us first, write to <a href=\"mailto:support@12gradus.com\">support@12gradus.com</a> and we'll either fix it or take the page down. What we won't do is quietly edit the promise. The uncomfortable bit There's a version of this argument that says: if AI could genuinely spot the sponsee who's about to relapse, refusing to build it is a choice with a body count. We've sat with that. Two answers. The first is empirical: it can't, not reliably, not from the thin behavioural signal an app can see. What it can do is produce a confident-sounding number, and confident-sounding numbers change human behaviour far more than their accuracy deserves. The second is about what the tool is for. 12Gradus doesn't need to predict anything. It needs to show a sponsor that it has been eleven days since they heard from someone, and then get out of the way. The sponsor already knows things about that person that no model will ever have — how they sounded on the phone last month, what their mother's illness did to them, what step they're stuck on and why. Our job is to make sure that human notices. Not to replace what they'd notice. 12Gradus is peer-support software for twelve-step sponsorship — not treatment, not a crisis service. Here is what 12Gradus means instead, and how you can tell the difference. By 12Gradus Every app says it takes your privacy seriously. The sentence has been worn so smooth it means nothing. So instead of saying it, here is the specific thing we do, in enough detail that you could check. Two kinds of private When software says a piece of your data is private, it usually means one of two things. The weak kind: the server holds everything, and the app is written not to show it to the wrong person. The data is one query away from anyone who can talk to the server directly. A bug in a screen, a forgotten filter in a new feature, a curious engineer, or a determined person with the browser's network tab — any of these can reach it. Nothing was ever actually blocked; it was just not displayed. The strong kind: the database itself refuses. The rule lives below the app, so it holds no matter what code asks. A new feature written badly can't leak it, because the leak isn't the app's decision to make. 12Gradus does the strong kind for private recovery content. It's called row-level security, and it means the database evaluates who is asking on every single read and write, per table, per row, per column, per operation. What is actually private Concretely: Journal entries a sponsee marks private. Their sponsor cannot read them. Not in the app, not through the API, not by accident. The row is not returned to that person, full stop. Private reflections inside step work. When a sponsor builds a form, they can mark a question a private reflection. The sponsee's answer goes into a separate table the sponsor has no read access to. The sponsor sees a tick that it was answered — nothing more. That tick is the point: it tells the sponsor the work was done without telling them what was in it. Mailing addresses. A sponsee's address is readable only by that sponsee. When auto-gift sends a milestone magnet, the address goes to the print house on a parcel label. The sponsor never sees it. Sponsor coaching notes. These run the other way — notes a sponsor keeps about a sponsee are on the sponsor's side and are not shown to the sponsee. How you can tell we mean it Anyone can write the paragraph above. Here's the part that's harder to fake. We wrote an adversarial test suite: a program that signs in as three real accounts — a sponsor, their sponsee, and a stranger with no relationship to either — and then tries, twenty-six different ways, to read and write things it shouldn't. Read the private journal. Mark your own step work complete. Change who owns a relationship. Edit somebody else's message. Insert a message pretending to be from the other person. The first time we ran it against our own rules, ten of the twenty-six attacks succeeded. That was uncomfortable and it was the entire value of running it. We rewrote the policies until all twenty-six failed to get through, which is where they stand now, and the suite runs against changes so a future feature can't quietly reopen one. That number — ten — is the reason to trust the rest of this page more than a marketing promise. We're telling you we got it wrong, because how a company behaves when it finds its own hole is the only real signal available to you. Anonymity, separately Privacy and anonymity aren't the same thing, and recovery communities need both. 12Gradus shows first name and last initial, everywhere a name appears, the way the rooms do. There are no public profiles, no directory, no search-for-a-person, no follower counts, no way to be discovered by someone who shouldn't know you're here. The only way two accounts become connected is one person giving another an invite code, in person or however they already talk. What we don't do We don't sell data. There is no advertising business here and no plan to build one. We don't train AI models on recovery content — not journals, not step work, not chat. Not anonymised, not aggregated, not later. Where AI is used is written out on the AI page . We don't email your sponsee about your account, or your sponsor about your journal. We don't keep a relationship alive after you end it. Ending a pairing deletes the shared chat and leaves the sponsee's own journal, reflections and step history intact — theirs, not ours, and not their former sponsor's. Where we're honest about limits Some things we do not claim, because they aren't true: Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They're encrypted in transit and at rest and access-controlled per row, but our servers can technically read them. We used to have vaguer language on this and we removed it. If you need genuine end-to-end secrecy, use a tool built for that. We can be compelled by law. Every company can. Anonymity in the app is real protection against the ordinary risks — a curious acquaintance, a leak, a data broker — and it isn't a shield against a court. Your device is your device. If someone else can unlock your phone, they can read what's on it. That's outside anything we can fix from here. If any of the above stops being true, we'll change this page and say what changed. Should you catch us before we do: <a href=\"mailto:support@12gradus.com\">support@12gradus.com</a>. 12Gradus is peer-support software for twelve-step sponsorship — not treatment, not a crisis service. Milestones belong to you. Why 12Gradus makes Days of Freedom magnets instead of recovery chips — a decision that started as a trademark question and turned into a better idea. By 12Gradus The first version of our shop sold recovery chips. It seemed obvious. Somebody hits ninety days, you hand them a thing they can hold. That ritual is older than any of us and it works. We stopped for two reasons. One was legal and boring. The other changed how we think about milestones entirely. The boring reason Chips and medallions are the fellowships' own. The designs, the wording, the traditions around who hands one to whom — those belong to the programs that built them, and several are protected marks sold to fund the fellowships themselves. A company selling lookalikes is, at best, taking money that should be going to a service structure. At worst it's trading on somebody else's name. We didn't want a lawyer's opinion on where the line was. We wanted to not be near it. The better reason Once we stopped trying to make a chip, we noticed the thing a chip can't do: it can't be program-agnostic. 12Gradus supports all thirty-three twelve-step fellowships. A gambler counts days. So does someone in AA, NA, OA, SLAA, Al-Anon, and two dozen others — and each of those has its own colours, its own words, its own customs about what a given anniversary means. Any single physical token we made would be right for one fellowship and slightly wrong for the rest. So we made something that doesn't belong to any of them: Days of Freedom . Thirty days. Sixty. Ninety. Six months, nine months, a year, eighteen months, two years, then one for every year after. No program name, no fellowship logo, no borrowed language. Just the count and a sunrise over water — the same wave that's in our logo, because the thing about a wave is that there's always another one and you're still standing. Why a magnet This was the part we argued about. A chip lives in a pocket. That's the point of it — a thing to reach for when your hand needs something to do. But a pocket is also private, and a lot of milestones are quietly private on purpose. A magnet lives on a fridge. And a fridge is the most-visited surface in a house. Somebody's kid sees it. Their partner sees it. They see it, at 6am, before they've decided what kind of day it's going to be. It's a small, dumb, physical fact: the thing you see every morning is the thing you believe. A magnet gets seen every morning. They're 3-inch die-cut, printed on demand, ten dollars. That price is close to what it costs us to make and ship one — this isn't a margin business, it's a there should be a thing to hold business. The milestone flag Flag a sponsee and 12Gradus tells you a week before each milestone lands, with the magnet one tap from ordered. We built that because the gap between \"I should send them something\" and actually sending it is where most good intentions die, and a week is enough lead time to close it. Two things about where this is going, because they matter: Sending it for you is next, and the sponsee's address stays theirs. Today the gift is ordered by hand, so it ships to whatever address is typed at checkout. In the automatic version the parcel is addressed from the sponsee's own profile, straight to the printer — a sponsor never sees it. We'd rather say that plainly than let you assume it already works that way. It's a gift, not a reward. Nothing is unlocked, no streak breaks, nothing is taken away on a reset. A reset resets the date. It never resets the relationship, and it never resets what somebody already earned. About resets Since we're here: the counter in 12Gradus can be set back, and setting it back is a normal, unremarkable action that produces no red screens, no lost history, and no notification to anyone who wasn't already in the loop. We thought hard about this. Software has a habit of turning a hard human moment into a punishment — the broken streak, the sad graphic, the you've lost your progress . A person setting their date back is having one of the worst days of their year. The software's entire job in that moment is to be unremarkable, and then to be there tomorrow when the count starts again at one. One day at a time is not a slogan we borrowed for marketing. It's a design constraint. 12Gradus is peer-support software for twelve-step sponsorship — not treatment, not a crisis service. If you're in crisis, call 988 or 1-800-GAMBLER . The whole product is an answer to one question a sponsor asks themselves on a Tuesday night — and usually gets wrong. By 12Gradus There is a question every sponsor asks themselves, usually late, usually while doing something else. Who haven't I called? It sounds like a small question. It isn't. It's the question that decides whether somebody gets a phone call on the night they were going to place a bet, or whether they get one on Thursday, after. And almost nobody can answer it accurately. Not because sponsors are careless — the opposite. Sponsors are some of the most conscientious people in any room. The problem is that the question requires holding a dozen relationships, each with its own timeline, in a head that is also holding a job, a family, and its own recovery. What memory does instead Memory doesn't hold a list. Memory holds a feeling of a list, and the feeling has a predictable shape: The loud ones stay loud. The sponsee who texts you six times a day is never the one you forget. The one in trouble goes quiet. Withdrawal looks exactly like doing fine, right up until it doesn't. The new one takes all the oxygen. Someone in their first thirty days is urgent in a way that pushes the person on step nine to the back of your mind — and step nine is not a safe place to be forgotten. So the honest answer to who haven't I called? is usually: the person it would have mattered most to call. The fix isn't a reminder app We tried that first, the way everyone does. Calendar reminders, a task list, a note per person. It fails for a boring reason: a generic tool doesn't know what a check-in is, doesn't know what step four means, doesn't know that a reset resets the date and not the relationship. You end up maintaining the tool instead of using it. What actually works is much less clever. You need a list of the people you sponsor, sorted by how long it's been, with enough context next to each name that you can pick up the phone without rereading three months of texts first. That's it. That's the feature. Everything else in 12Gradus — the step work, the check-ins, the text bridge — exists to keep that one list honest without anyone having to maintain it by hand. What \"honest\" means here A list is only useful if it tells you things you'd rather not hear. So: Silence is shown as silence, not as green. If somebody hasn't checked in for eleven days, the number says eleven days. Assigned work that never came back stays visible. It doesn't quietly age out of view. Nothing is scored. There's no risk percentage, no engagement grade, no algorithm ranking your sponsees by who deserves your attention. That judgement is yours, and it should be — you know things about these people that no software will ever see. The tool's job is to put the facts in front of you. What you do at 9pm on a Tuesday is still entirely a human decision. A smaller promise than most software makes We're not going to claim 12Gradus keeps anyone sober. Nothing on a screen does that. Meetings do that, and the steps do that, and one person telling another person the truth does that. What software can do is make sure the call gets made. That's a narrow promise, and we'd rather make a narrow one and keep it. If you sponsor people and you've ever answered who haven't I called? wrong, you already know what this is for. 12Gradus is peer-support software for twelve-step sponsorship — not treatment, not a crisis service. We encourage first name and last initial only, in keeping with the tradition of anonymity. Recovery support information you choose to enter — such as a recovery date, program selection, step-work assignments and responses, chat messages between a sponsor and sponsee, check-ins, journal entries, scheduled sessions, and optional profile details (phone number, home group, best times to talk). Purchase information — if you buy from our shop, payment is processed by Stripe and shipping by our fulfillment partners; we receive order details and a shipping address, never full card numbers. Technical basics — standard server logs needed to run and secure the service. How we use information To provide the service: connecting sponsors and sponsees, syncing step work, chat, check-ins, and schedules between their devices. To deliver messages you've asked for, including SMS text messages if you opt in. To fulfill purchases and milestone gifts. To secure, maintain, and improve the service. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your recovery information for advertising. Privacy inside the app Private journal entries are private. A sponsee chooses, entry by entry, what is shared with their sponsor. Entries marked private are never visible to the sponsor — this is enforced at the database level, not just in the app's interface. Sponsor notes stay on the sponsor's device and are never uploaded to our servers. Sponsors see only the sponsees connected to them by an invitation the sponsee accepted. SMS text messaging 12Gradus offers an optional SMS bridge so a sponsee can receive their sponsor's messages as text messages and reply by text. Opt-in: SMS is used only for phone numbers provided to us with consent, with text messaging expressly enabled for that person's profile. Messages are one-to-one recovery support conversations between a sponsee and their own sponsor — never marketing. Message frequency varies by conversation. Message and data rates may apply. Opt-out: reply STOP at any time to stop receiving texts. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at support@12gradus.com . You can also turn off SMS in the app at any time. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. When we share information Only with service providers who process it on our behalf to run the service, under contractual confidentiality: cloud database hosting (Supabase), SMS delivery (Twilio), payment processing (Stripe), video meeting rooms, and print-and-ship fulfillment (Printful). We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a person or the integrity of the service. Data retention and deletion We keep your information while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and its data at any time by contacting support@12gradus.com ; we will delete it except where the law requires us to keep records (for example, purchase records). Security Data is encrypted in transit, access is controlled with row-level security so each person can reach only their own relationships, and secrets are never stored in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but the service is designed so that even we see as little as possible. Children 12Gradus is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. Changes If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or by email. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy . 1. What 12Gradus is — and is not 12Gradus is a tool that helps 12-step sponsors and sponsees organize their work together: communication, step assignments, check-ins, scheduling, and milestones. It supports the human relationship at the heart of sponsorship; it does not replace it. 12Gradus is not a medical, mental-health, or professional service. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, therapy, or crisis intervention. Sponsors are peers in recovery, not professionals. 12Gradus is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a part of any 12-step fellowship. If you are in crisis, do not rely on this service. Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 1-800-GAMBLER (National Problem Gambling Helpline). Both are free, confidential, and answer 24/7. In an emergency, call 911. 2. Eligibility and accounts You must be at least 18 years old to use 12Gradus. You are responsible for your account credentials and for the accuracy of the information you provide. One person may act as both a sponsor and a sponsee. You may only connect with a sponsee through an invitation they accept, and you may only provide a phone number you are authorized to provide. 3. Acceptable use Use the service only for genuine recovery support. Respect anonymity: do not disclose another member's identity, participation, or recovery information outside the service without their consent. No harassment, abuse, exploitation, solicitation, or unlawful content. No attempts to access data that is not yours or to interfere with the service. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or put other members at risk. 4. SMS messaging terms (12Gradus Recovery Support Texts) Program description: 12Gradus Recovery Support Texts is an optional SMS program that delivers one-to-one recovery support messages between a sponsee and their own sponsor as text messages: session and meeting details when they are booked, milestone encouragement, check-in follow-ups, and replies to support requests. It is a conversational, person-to-app messaging service and is never used for marketing or promotional messages. Opt-in: you can enroll only by providing your own mobile number in the app and then replying YES to a consent request text sent to that number. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of using 12Gradus or of any purchase. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Opt-out: reply STOP to any message to cancel and stop receiving texts. After you send STOP, you will receive one final message confirming your opt-out, and no further messages will be sent. Reply START to re-subscribe. SMS can also be turned off in the app at any time. Help and support: reply HELP to any message, email support@12gradus.com , or visit 12gradus.com . Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Do not use SMS for emergencies. See our Privacy Policy for how mobile information is handled. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. 5. Your content You own what you write in 12Gradus. You grant us only the limited license needed to store, transmit, and display it to the people you have connected with, as the service is designed to do. Sponsors who share assignment templates with the community grant other sponsors the right to use them within 12Gradus, credited by display name. 6. Plans, purchases, and the shop Sponsee accounts are free. Sponsor plans are subscriptions billed at the prices shown in the app, and may be canceled anytime, effective at the end of the billing period. Shop purchases (milestone magnets, apparel, and similar items) are processed by Stripe and fulfilled by our print partners; prices, shipping, and any return handling are shown at checkout. Milestone gifting is a prompt, not a standing order: turning on auto-gift for a sponsee means we notify the sponsoring account before each milestone and surface the right magnet in the shop. Nothing is ordered or charged until that account adds it to the cart and completes checkout, and we do not store or charge a card outside a checkout you complete yourself. 7. Disclaimers The service is provided \"as is\" and \"as available,\" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, or the conduct, advice, or outcomes of any member. 8. Limitation of liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, MCK Legacy LLC and its members, officers, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or $50 if you have paid nothing. 9. Changes and termination We may update these Terms; material changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and continued use after that constitutes acceptance. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. 10. Governing law These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which MCK Legacy LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Who sends and receives messages Sender: a sponsee's own recovery sponsor, through the 12Gradus platform. Recipient: an adult sponsee who asked to receive their sponsor's messages by text. Every conversation is strictly one-to-one peer support: encouragement, check-ins, step-work reminders, and meeting scheduling. No marketing or promotional messages are ever sent through this program. How opt-in works (double opt-in) An adult 12Gradus user (sponsee) provides their own mobile number in their app profile and enables text messaging (\"Prefers SMS\"). They can turn it off in the app at any time. The first and only message sent before consent is a single consent request: 12Gradus: {Sponsor first name} has invited you to receive recovery support texts. Reply YES to confirm. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. No further messages are sent unless the user replies YES (or START) from their own handset. On confirmation they receive: 12Gradus: You're connected with your sponsor for recovery support texts. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Only then do conversational messages flow, always brand-identified, for example: Kyle (12Gradus): Proud of you for reaching 30 days. One day at a time. Kyle (12Gradus): Our step work session is tomorrow at 7pm. Reply here if you need to reschedule. Frequency, rates, opt-out, and help Message frequency varies by conversation (typical volume is a few messages per week). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to opt out — texting is disabled immediately and the sponsor is notified in the app. Reply START to resume. Reply HELP for help, or contact support@12gradus.com . No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. Open the app Back to 12gradus.com IN THIS GUIDE Getting started For sponsors For sponsees Privacy & safety GETTING STARTED Create your account 12gradus runs in your browser at app.12gradus.com — nothing to install. Anonymity comes first: sign up with your first name and last initial (“David W.”), never your full name. The front door: sign in, create an account, or explore the demo workspace. Sponsors create an account and pick a plan (beta testers: choose a plan and enter your discount code on the checkout page — a 100%-off code won’t ask for a card). Sponsees never pay: your sponsor sends you a 6-letter invite code, and entering it at sign-up connects you to them. Just looking? “Explore the demo workspace” opens a full sponsor workspace with sample sponsees. Nothing you do there leaves your device. One login, two hats. A sponsor is usually also a sponsee working their own program. The same account can hold both roles and switch between them — look for “My recovery” / “My sponsor workspace.” FOR SPONSORS Your sponsor workspace Everything about the people you walk with — check-ins, step work, messages, and milestones — organized so no sponsee is unintentionally left by the wayside. The dashboard: who needs you today Your morning glance. The top row counts active sponsees, today’s check-ins, and step work waiting on you. Needs your attention ranks what matters right now — a rough-moment alert always rises to the top, followed by submitted work, upcoming milestones, and sponsees who’ve gone quiet. This week’s pulse shows check-in activity at a glance; silence is often the first signal. A rough moment, a submission to review, a milestone to celebrate — triaged for you. Invite and manage sponsees Tap Invite sponsee to generate a 6-letter code; your sponsee enters it when they create their free account, and the pairing is automatic. The roster shows each person’s days count, current step, and status pill — filter by program or by “Needs attention.” All 33 twelve-step fellowships are supported; each sponsee tracks in their own program. The roster: recovery days, current step, and who needs a call — in one look. The sponsee profile One page per person: recovery days and milestone track, step progress, urge check-in sparkline, contact details with high-risk days, their shared journal entries, and your own notes. The Relapse prevention plan card lets you assign the full written plan with a due date and a review date you’ll keep together — more on that in the sponsee guide below. Marcus’s page: 87 days, Step 4 in review, prevention plan in progress, journal shared. Your notes are yours. Sponsor notes are saved to your account over an encrypted connection, so they follow you to any device — and only you can read them; the database refuses everyone else, the sponsee included. Sponsees choose which journal entries you can see. Preview as sponsee (top right) shows you exactly what your sponsee sees in their app — useful when you’re walking them through something by phone. Step work: assign, coach, review Every step from 0 (willingness) to 12 carries ready-made assignment options plus sponsor coaching — what the step is reaching for, green flags, and red flags, written for the realities of gambling recovery. Assign built-ins as-is, create your own (writing, meeting, action, or worksheet — with in-app questions your sponsee answers, including private-reflection questions only they can read), or browse community templates shared by other sponsors. Submitted work lands on your dashboard; review it together, then mark the step complete. Step 4 for a GA sponsee: the financial inventory options, with coaching beside them. Non-step work lives here too — check-in worksheets, gratitude lists, and the relapse prevention plan all sit in their own section below Step 12. Messages, SMS, and the rough-moment button Chat with each sponsee in one thread. Sponsees who prefer texting get your messages as a normal SMS from your 12gradus number — your personal number stays private — and their replies land right back in the thread. When a sponsee taps “Rough moment” , you’re alerted instantly; their written emergency plan is one tap away on their profile. Secure chat with an SMS bridge — and quick replies for the moments that matter. SMS alerts for you: the button at the top right lets 12gradus text you when a sponsee turns in work or taps Rough moment. Enter your cell, flip the switch, and reply YES to the confirmation text. Schedule: calls, step sessions, reviews Book accountability calls, in-person meetings, video sessions (a private room link is created for you), and plan reviews. Booking one texts your sponsee the details, and about an hour before a confirmed meeting both of you get a reminder — each side on its own opt-in, so you get yours if sponsor alerts are on and they get theirs if they are on the SMS bridge. Texting STOP ends them like any other message. Video sessions include a Join button on each side. The week at a glance — including a relapse-prevention-plan review on the books. Milestones and the shop Every stretch of freedom deserves marking. The shop carries “Days of Freedom” milestone magnets (30 days through 2 years, then annual) and 12gradus apparel. Turn on auto-gift per sponsee and you stop having to remember the date: about ten days before each milestone we email you — and text you, if sponsor alerts are on — so there is still time for it to arrive. The right magnet is waiting in the Shop, and any they have already passed are there too. You approve and check out: we never charge a card without you , so nothing is ordered until you do. Milestone magnets — a $10 way to say “I see you showing up.” Plan & billing Sponsors subscribe to one plan — Sponsor , $10/month — and it covers everything: unlimited sponsees, the SMS bridge, milestone reminders, and whatever we build next. There is no higher tier. Sponsees are free forever, no exceptions. Manage your card, invoices, or cancellation any time via “Manage plan.” One paid plan for sponsors; being sponsored never costs anything. FOR SPONSEES Your recovery, in your pocket Your app is free, always. It’s built around one promise: your data is yours, and your sponsor only ever sees what you choose to share. Today: check in, and reach out when it’s loud Your day starts here — your days count, progress to the next milestone, and the daily check-in : how loud is the urge today, 1 to 5? It takes ten seconds and tells your sponsor you’re showing up. When an urge gets loud, tap “Having a rough moment?” — your sponsor is alerted instantly, and your own emergency plan appears right there with the crisis lines. Reach out first, decide later. 87 days, checked in, three days to the 90-day milestone. My steps: your work, turned in from the app Your step journey lives here — steps you’ve completed, the one you’re on, and the work your sponsor has assigned. Writing assignments open right in the app and save as you write ; turn work in when it’s ready and review it together. Questions marked with a lock are private reflections : your sponsor sees only that you answered, never what you wrote. After each completed step, write “My story” in your own words — those become the chapters of your printable My Recovery Steps book. Four steps down — each one a chapter of your story. Your relapse prevention plan The most important document you’ll write: triggers and coping skills, your support network, relapse flags, and a step-by-step emergency plan — written on a calm day so it’s ready on a loud one . It has a due date, and a scheduled review where you and your sponsor go through the whole thing together. Take it in sittings; it saves as you write. Your answers to the emergency section show up automatically when you tap the rough-moment button. The plan form — triggers, support network, flags, and your emergency plan. Journal: yours first, shared only if you choose Write what’s true today. Every entry starts as yours alone — flip the toggle to share one with your sponsor, or keep it private forever. Private entries never leave your side ; this is enforced by the server, not just the app. Ten honest words beat a perfect page. Chat with your sponsor A private thread between the two of you, with quick replies for the common moments. If you prefer texting, your sponsor’s messages arrive as normal SMS and you can reply by text without opening the app — reply STOP any time to pause texts, START to resume. It stays between you two. More: milestones, your book, and help right now Your milestone shelf, your sponsor’s card, your prevention plan’s status and review date, your printable My Recovery Steps book, and a meeting finder. The crisis lines are always one tap away at the bottom. Everything else — including help that answers 24/7. PRIVACY & SAFETY The rules we never break Anonymity is a tradition, not a feature. First name and last initial everywhere. No ads and no data sales. You can sign in with Google if you want to, and it is used only to prove the address is yours — your display name is still the one you choose, first name and last initial, and nothing is shared back. Sponsees own their data. Private journal entries and private reflections are hidden from sponsors at the server level. Sponsor notes are readable only by the sponsor who wrote them — never by the sponsee. Texting is double opt-in and stops the moment you text STOP. 12gradus is peer support, not medical care. It strengthens the human connection at the heart of sponsorship — it doesn’t replace it, and it’s not treatment. In crisis, right now? National Problem Gambling Helpline: 1-800-GAMBLER Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: call or text 988 Both are free, confidential, and answer 24/7.
